George W. Maybe
Born 27 June 1842 in Liberty, NY the son of James Maybe. He died on 15 January 1913 at his home in Narrowsburg, NY. He married Jane C. Lewis on 21 November 1866, she was born in October 1842., it states she had 4 children and 4 living in 1900. Various records show a son Ernest G., Bruce E., and a daughter Cora E. (the other child was not mentioned in his obituary so must have died between 1900 and 1913.) 

George was in the Civil War as a private in John Waller’s Co H. 28th Reg’t, he was wounded in battle and honorably discharged. On 31 April 1881 he purchased the Sullivan County Record, which paper he edited for three years. Always interested in newspaper work and up to the time of his death, he was a regular correspondent to various sheets but was the local editor of the Narrowsburg Democrat. In the year 1884 he changed his residence to Narrowsburg. When younger he taught school in many districts in Sullivan County, including Youngsville, Jeffersonville and Callicoon Center.
