Delaware Valley Arts Alliance - Riverfest  2000

RiverFest

Tenth RiverFest to Celebrate the Arts and Environment

RiverFest, everyone's favorite music, arts and environmental festival, will return to Main Street in Narrowsburg, New York, Sunday, July 23rd, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The festival, which celebrates the wonders of the Delaware River, will feature live music, arts, crafts, performance, food, environmental and ecological information, and an auction of RiverFest posters by area artists.

The poster auction, an annual highlight, will begin around 1 p.m. with auctioneer Pamela Moore Epstein. The imaginative art works are painted, drawn, sculpted or collaged on (and sometime beyond) the 17x11" blank RiverFest posters, by an always creative and diverse group of regional artists.  The poster blanks are provided by the Delaware Valley ArtsAlliance and auction proceeds benefit its Gallery Program. Artists, and those with a creative impulse, may pick up the blank posters at the Delaware Arts Center, 37 Main Street in Narrowsburg. Completed posters are to be returned the first week of July as they are displayed in the windows of the art center until the auction.  There is a limited number of blanks, so act quickly.

Against a backdrop of live jazz and swing music, RiverFest will carry on its tradition of presenting high quality, originally designed, and beautifully executed crafts, including the exquisite pottery of Roberta Kane, stunning dried flower arrangements by Sabine Zenner, the always popular Angelheart Jewelry, and Sally Estabrook's pressed flowers. New to the festival are The Nocera Art Tile Co., who specializes in reliefs, borders, decos, murals, and decorative giftware, and Two Sisters Candles from Callicoon, with beautifully crafted aromatherpy candles. Edward Priest will bring his bottles, saws, shovels, and almost everything else you could imagine, painted with country scenes in cheerful hues.  Arthur Peck of Narrowsburg will display his spectacular hand crafted boat. And of course there will be several fine artists displaying their work. NaCl stilt-walkers, a big hit last year, will return this year with a booth. And there's talk of a world renown phrenologist dropping by around 10 -11 a.m., who will enlighten the crowd with his Medicine Show. Information booths, many of which will have demonstrations, will cover a range of topics including  water quality, gardening, eagles, fly tying, medical services and river recreation.  Right down the street, books on these and many other topics will be on sale at the library's annual new and used book sale.

RiverFest is sponsored by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance and the Narrowsburg Chamber of Commerce.  There is no admission charge.  Come celebrate the arts, the environment and the river!  For further information call 845-252-7576 or e-mail:
